You know I couldn’t resist adding a bonus! Right? Lol! I do love spoiling you guys…;)
So this video documents me creating an abstracted face in a Picasso/Ivy style! I really enjoyed simplifying the shapes from the reference image and then focusing on varying my values of blues and creating rhythm in the shapes and lines. At one point, I let the image dry and took a picture of it. I then brought that photo into the app - Procreate, where I played around with design. This allowed me to play and experiment with the piece before actually applying paint! I highly recommend trying this out on your ipad or iphone!

I hope you will try this one yourself! Get any photo reference you like and then squint your eyes. Focus on simplifying the shapes. Try and define the shapes of the lights and darks rather than the features. See what happens. Where do you see a place to add shape and create rhythm? This is such a great exercise in abstraction! Have fun!
