Let’s begin our art practice with a closer look at a gorgeous natural artifact - the feather!
Look at your feathers...can you identify what bird they come from or what type of feather they are? Check out the chart below to see how different feathers are shaped based on where they are on the bird. Yes, we get to be an ornithologist for a moment… :)
Gather up your favorite feathers and prepare to observe and then sketch these! Play with a mix of pencil, charcoal, ink or even paint! It’s up to you! Again, take your time and enjoy this quiet study.

What is one of the most beautiful structures in nature? In my opinion...it’s the wing! Hands down this stunning natural design is pure divine genius. So let’s have a look at the wing and do some sketching in our sketchbooks or art journals. Here is the diagram I used as a reference.
Focus on creating the large shapes first and then adding detail. This is a great exercise in observation.
