Let’s do some drawing warmups in Procreate! These will help you prepare for the larger lessons coming up.
Warmup 1: Explore Brush Qualities
Each Procreate brush has different qualities and when you know about them then you can access the full potential of each brush. Download the Brush Qualities Worksheet and join me in the video to learn more.
Warmup 2: Shading and Blending Techniques
Practice shading from light to dark using a value scale. Download the Brush Qualities Worksheet and join me in the video to learn more.

Warmup 3: Keeping a Sketchbook
Did you know that you can create a multipage document, like a booklet, in Procreate? In this lesson we will create our own sketchbooks to explore and document 3 different brush sets.
The three brush sets we will be using are: Sketching, Inking, and Charcoals. Discover how each brush feels in your hand and find your favorites.
Warmup 4: Drawing Assistance
Have trouble drawing a straight line? A perfect circle? A triangle or square? No problem, Procreate is there to assist you.
In this lesson you will learn how and when Procreate’s automatic drawing assistance kicks in, so you can use it or avoid it. Whether you want to be precise or create naturally – it’s always great to have options!
Warmup 5: Two Ways to Shade Objects
In this lesson you will learn how to shade 3-D forms and apply those principles with or without drawing assistance.
First, we will shade a 3-D sphere observing highlights, shadows, cast shadows and reflected light. Then, we will apply the same shading principles, but employ some of Procreate’s tools to help us. This will teach you how to color fill a perfect shape and then use alpha lock for more precise shading. Afterwards, you can compare the two ways of shading and use them later in the larger projects.
As a challenge, I have provided a shading worksheet for you to use. Download it and then place it in an 11”x17” canvas and try it out. I would love to see how you do!
Will you shade naturally, or will you try alpha lock?
