Let's begin the lesson...

"

When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds. I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water. And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

For this lesson, you will need a sense of adventure, a heart full of the need to create, and a love of art supplies and play! Please do not feel overwhelmed by any processes new to you - take a deep, slow breath, and follow through step by step. Everything can be broken down into manageable pieces - take your time and enjoy every moment!

I have provided you with reference pictures for the fresco that sparked my imagination, the heron and art nouveau inspiration for the borders, as well as a photo of my final composition drawing. You can feel free to print or copy that directly to watercolour paper, or create your own design from the references, or a combination of both!
